After a month of testing and a lot of whiteboards, we've put together our first update to the beta for Fleet Battle School. The biggest improvement to the update is the start of a "macro" system to simplify how orders are given to your forces. If you click on a unit and then right-click (or hold-press for those using touch screens), it will automatically plot a course and then offer a short menu of options for tactics to employ on route. This is the predecessor to the implementation of a set of 5-finger menus which we will be integrating into the game at the end of November. We are very interested to make sure we have the right mix of macros for tactics, so we welcome your thoughts on if more are needed.
In addition to the 5-finger menus, we are also working on improvements to the combat reporting this month. We will be replacing the orange notes with a system which will help better describe the progress of battles. It will offer more information on how well your attacks and defending efforts are going, in a manner that is easier to quickly understand. It will come out first on Windows and Linux, and then we'll follow up with similar improvements on the tablet platforms based on how well the Windows prototype goes.
The links to this month's Windows and Android update are below. (The updates for these platforms will be quicker to work than the other platforms.) Let us know what you think, and please post at github.com/Code60Home/fbs with bugs that you find!
